Looking to become a more savvy grocery shopper? Now that we’ve helped you create your custom Meal Plan, let us help you save money, time and select the most nutritious foods with a few tips.
BEFORE YOU SHOP
1. Make a list.
Smart, healthful food shopping starts with a grocery list. Go without one and you’re more likely to forget something you need and make unhealthy (as well as costly) impulse purchases.
After creating your Meal Plan, navigate to the Grocery List tab where you’ll find an auto-generated list of ingredients to match your meal plan, to which you can quickly add and remove items as needed. When you get to the store, just open the Zipongo app, tap Grocery List and start shopping!
2. Look for deals.
Perusing weekly circulars can help you save money, but it takes time and they’re often filled with savings on unhealthy, highly processed convenience foods.
Zipongo’s Deals helps you save money and stay focused on nutritious foods. Tap Deals and you will find a list of specials on good-for-you foods, like fresh fish and produce, currently being offered at grocery stores local to you. Simply tap each item to add them to your Grocery List!
3. Consider convenience.
If getting to the grocery store seems impossible, consider quicker, more convenient alternatives, like grocery pickup or delivery.
Now with Grocery Delivery powered by Instacart, you can seamlessly convert your Grocery List into a shopping cart and have all of your groceries delivered to your door in as few as two hours.
WHILE YOU SHOP
Whether you’re doing a big shop or just running in for a few things, here are some in-store strategies to help you stay focused and spend less.
4. Stick to your list.
Sticking to your Grocery List will help you avoid costly, impulsive purchases that are often unhealthy.
5. Buy in bulk, or look for family packs.
These are often better deals. This strategy is particularly useful for foods with a longer shelf life, such as yogurt, cheese, canned beans, nuts, frozen fruits and veggies, as well as fresh breads, meats and fish that can be frozen.
6. Shop the back of the aisle or cooler.
When buying perishable foods like bread, milk, cream, eggs, bagged salads, berries and pre-cut fruits and veggies, look behind the frontrunners for packages with later expiration dates.
Happy & healthy shopping!
